A run with a purpose
Miles for Hope
Seattle to New York. One mile at a time. For something bigger than ourselves.
A Run With a Purpose
Miles for Hope is a cross-country running project built around one mission: to turn endurance into impact.
The goal is to run from Seattle, Washington to New York City, raising funds and awareness for the fight against blood cancer while connecting with patients, families, hospitals, firefighters, and communities along the way.
The distance will be measured in miles, but the purpose of the journey goes far beyond the finish line.
Miles for Hope is about using something difficult to support people facing challenges far greater than my own.
My Name Is Eddie
"You can usually go farther than you think you can."
I'm a firefighter, endurance athlete, and someone who believes that difficult things can become meaningful when they are done for a purpose bigger than yourself.
Over the years, I've challenged myself physically in different ways. I completed a full-distance Ironman, trained through long days when quitting would have been easier, and pursued a career in the fire service that demanded discipline, sacrifice, and persistence.
But Miles for Hope isn't about proving how far I can run. It's about seeing how much good can be created along the way.
Why Miles for Hope?
The idea was heavily inspired by Terry Fox and the Marathon of Hope.
Terry attempted to run across Canada after losing his leg to cancer. His goal wasn't fame or recognition. He wanted to raise money for cancer research and bring an entire country together behind the cause.
He never completed his run. But the impact of what he started has continued for generations.
That story stayed with me. It made me ask myself: what could I do with the abilities and opportunities I've been given?
Eventually, the answer became Miles for Hope. A run across America. Seattle to New York. Thousands of miles dedicated to people fighting cancer.
Why Blood Cancer?
Miles for Hope will raise funds and awareness in support of the fight against blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
Cancer affects far more than the person receiving the diagnosis. It affects parents, children, siblings, spouses, friends, caregivers, and entire communities.
Throughout the journey, I hope to visit pediatric cancer programs, treatment centers, research organizations, and communities connected to the cause.
I want them to know that people are thinking about them. Running for them. Supporting them. And refusing to forget what they are going through.
The Journey
The run will begin in Seattle, Washington and end in New York City.
Between those two points will be thousands of miles, countless communities, unpredictable weather, physical exhaustion, and probably more difficult days than I can anticipate. But those challenges are part of the point.
Miles for Hope will document the entire process — from training and preparation to the miles on the road, the people we meet, the communities that support us, and ultimately the final steps into New York.
I want people following the project to experience the entire journey, not just the finish line.
More Than Miles
One of the most important parts of Miles for Hope will happen when I'm not running.
Along the route, I hope to connect with hospitals, cancer organizations, firefighters, first responders, local businesses, families, and communities.
There will be opportunities to tell people's stories, highlight organizations doing meaningful work, visit patients when appropriate, and bring communities together around the cause.
I don't want Miles for Hope to simply be remembered as "that guy who ran across the country." I want it to be remembered for the people it helped bring together.
The Mission
Run far. Bring people together. Raise money. Give hope.
Every mile has a purpose.
Every donation has an impact.
Every person who shares the story helps carry the mission a little farther.
And eventually, one mile at a time, we'll make it from Seattle to New York.
