Brain Tumor Tissue Banking

Various cutting edge personalized medicines under development today are an important step towards a future when cancer cures may be achieved.
Tumor tissue displays dozens of biomarkers.  The particular biomarkers form a profile or "fingerprint".  Just as each person's fingerprints are unique, the biomarker profile of each patient's cancer is different.  So, a patient's tumor tissue can play a very important role in helping fight a patient's cancer IF and ONLY IF  it is saved at the time of surgery, and stored for this use.
WHY SHOULD MY TUMOR TISSUE BE SAVED AND STORED?

CLEARWATER CELEBRATION WILL BENEFIT BRAIN TUMOR RESEARCH
Share

Brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor cancer death in children under the age of 20, and the second leading cause of cancer death in males under the age of 39.  Nearly the same numbers of people are affected with brain tumors as breast cancer, however, Miles for Hope, a national charity which is located in Clearwater is on a mission to change that.

Miles for Hope was founded by a brain cancer survivor and his wife and currently funds cutting edge research and treatments that provide a better quality of life.  “Sadly, the public remains unaware of the severity and magnitude of this disease”, stated Bob Gibbs, a 6 year survivor of the disease.  “Most people know how many people are touched by breast cancer, but never realized that nearly the same number are diagnosed with brain tumors, and that needs to change, and we can only do that through the help and support of the community”.

Miles for Hope, http://MilesForHope.org  is the benefiting charity for the 4th Friday on February 26. The event will take place in the 500 Block of Cleveland Street.  For more information on the 4th Friday event, visit http://www.4thFridayClearwater.com or call 866-550-3472. Beer and wine proceeds at the event will benefit Miles for Hope, a charity dedicated to not only finding a cure for brain cancer, but creating a better quality of life for those suffering with it.  In addition, Miles for Hope has partnered with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and during the event, will raffle off tickets to the March 20, 2010 game against the Washington Capitals.  The tickets will be for a suite and raffled off in a family four pack.  There will be four of these packs raffled off after the 4th Friday Celebration.  In addition, Miles for Hope is also recycling used cell phones, ink cartridges, toner cartridges, digital cameras and used gaming systems.  Bring your items to 4th Friday and help Miles for Hope and the environment at the same time!  Raffle tickets for the family four pack are currently available for purchase through Miles for Hope by calling (727) 781-HOPE (4673).

About the Clearwater Downtown Partnership and 4th Friday Clearwater:

Brain Tumor Walk Scheduled For Phoenix 2010

Miles for Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awarness and funding for brain cancer has scheduled a walk to be held on November 6, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.  This walk will take place at Kiwanbis Park, which is located at 6111 S. All Americas Way in Phoenix.

A portion of the proceeds from this walk will be donated to Phoenix Children's Hospital to be used for brain cancer research and awareness.  “We are pleased to be able to give back to the communities in which we hold events.  This aids us in createing awarness in communities like Boston, Denver, Seattle, Phoenix, Clearwater, and other cities where we hold events. “, said Bob Gibbs, a 5 ½ year survivor of this deadly disease.

Brain cancer affects as many people as breast cancer, yet only receives a small portion of the funding.  Our goal and mission through our brain tumor walks is to raise enough awarness, where we start receiving the same funding that breast cancer does, so we can also make large strides in awarness and early detection.

You can Register For The Phoenix Brain Tumor Walk now, as registration is currently open.  We encourage those who register to also create a team, or join a team and have fun raising funds for a disease that affects a new person every 3 minutes.

This is the first brain tumor walk for Miles for Hope at this location, but as with it’s other Moving Towards A Cure events, will be a huge success and a great time for friends and family to come together to raise awareness for brain cancer.

For more information on the Boston Brain Tumor Walk 2010, please visit http://mfh.kintera.org/PhoenixWalk  or http://milesforhope.org .  Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also currently available for this walk in Phoenix, as well as other locations across the country.  More information can also be obtained by contacting Miles for Hope at (727) 781-HOPE (4673).

BRAIN TUMOR WALK TO RAISE AWARENESS AND FUNDING FOR DEADLY DISEASE

Denver, CO – Each day in the United States, 482 people are diagnosed with a brain tumor, almost the same number that is diagnosed with breast cancer daily. Sadly, there exists a severe lack of awareness and funding for brain tumors.

Tampa Bay Lightning and Miles For Hope Present Ticket To A Cure To Fund Brain Cancer Research
Share

The Tampa Bay Lightning, in conjunction with Miles For Hope, will host Ticket To A Cure For Brain Cancer to educate the public about awareness and to act in moving forward towards a cure for brain tumors on Friday, April 2, when the Lightning face off against the New York Rangers at 7:30 at the St. Pete Times Forum (Sun Sports, AM 620 WDAE).

“Most people remain unaware of the actual magnitude of brain cancer.  One new person is diagnosed every three minutes with brain cancer, and it remains the leading cause of solid tumor cancer death in children under 20, as well as the second leading cause of cancer death in males from 20-39,” Miles For Hope executive director Barb Gibbs said. “Miles For Hope is pleased to have partnered with the Tampa Bay Lightning to raise awareness of brain cancer, and to raise critically needed funding for this deadly disease.”

The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a brain cancer awareness wristband in support of finding a cure for the disease. For each ticket purchased, fans will also receive a complementary Lightning gift, as a portion of the proceeds will benefit Miles For Hope Brain Cancer Research.

For $175, fans will receive access to the all-inclusive Channelside Club featuring an all-you-can-eat five-star buffet with unlimited beer, wine, and soft drinks. Fans may also receive a Plaza Endzone seat, as well as a Lightning gift, for $75. In addition, for $35, fans may purchase a Terrace Endzone seat and receive a free Lightning gift, or buy a last-seven-rows seat and also receive a gift for $17.  For more information, contact Miles for Hope at (727) 781-HOPE (4673)

Fans are welcome to join the Lightning in honoring families who now face the unthinkable and need more support than anyone could ever imagine.  In order to purchase tickets with a portion of the cost going to the charities, contact Kelvin Woodson at 813.301.6832 or at kwoodson@sptimesforum.com.  Tickets start as low as $17 and also include a complementary Lightning gift.
